The 4 key elements of magnetic copy will prevent your writing from being lost in all the marketing noise. Because, let’s face it; the digital playing field is oversaturated.
Every sentence you write needs to be magnetic enough to pull the reader to the next sentence.
And then the next.
All the way to your call-to-action!
Here are our 4 Key Elements of Magnetic Copy
Key Element 1: Be clear on PURPOSE
Your purpose dictates the style, tone, and overall flow of your piece. That is why it is vital to establish it before setting pen-to-paper (or fingers-to-keyboard). Ask yourself WHY you are writing this in the first place. Do you know what your desired outcome is? Are you:
- Motivating the Reader?
- Educating the Reader?
- Enticing the Reader to buy?
Ultimately, you need to determine if your goal is to build engagement or make a sale. When you know the purpose, your writing will begin to take shape.
Key Element 2: Simplicity is key
Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it to a six-year-old, you don’t understand it yourself.” While we doubt that your Target Audience is made up of preschoolers, this concept rings true in writing.
Descriptive language and a great story are very important – but without the core message staying clear, simple, and focussed, you run the risk of losing your reader’s attention before the final sentence.
Key Element 3: Stick to one structure
You would’ve learned early on in school that your writing needs a ‘beginning, middle and end.’ That hasn’t changed!
What is even more important, however, is that the golden thread that you introduced at the start makes its way to the end! There’s nothing worse than a question being posed right at the beginning of an article – only to reach the end and have it remain unanswered.
Key Element 4: Be UNIQUE or be forgotten
Not all topics are equally interesting.
I’m sure you’d agree that ‘Travel’ and ‘Adventure’ are intrinsically exciting, whereas ‘Finance’ and ‘Insurance’ are…not.
That being said, a talented copywriter or content writer will use an innovative angle to make the most boring subjects readable – if not downright enjoyable!
Bonus Tip
The words that you write need to offer genuine value and they need to be backed by an authentic brand. Millennials and Gen Z customers are very intentional about knowing the “WHY” behind a brand before becoming repeat customers.
